1959 Mercedes 190 SL Roadster For Sale - £199,990

We are thrilled to offer this immaculate Mercedes 190 SL Roadster fresh from a total Hemmels restoration.

The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL made history at the New York International Motor Sports Show in February 1954 by being the first new production car to be unveiled outside of Germany. Much of the attractive styling and engineering followed that of the bigger, more complex 300 SL (now over £1m a go), but with a simpler chassis modified from the W121 saloon and a new straight-four engine producing 105PS.

At half the price of the 300 SL the 190 SL outside its big brother by 8 to 1 and was a particular success in the USA, which accounted for almost 70% of production.

This striking example was originally sold into California in 1959 and lived in the USA before being shipped to the UK in 2015. After arriving in the UK the car was stripped and all sills and floors checked and repaired where necessary. It was then resprayed, retrimmed, re-chromed and the engine partially rebuilt by the Sheffield Supercar Centre.

Bought by the current owner in 2018 the car was used for a number of years before he enlisted the support of world renowned Mercedes specialists, Hemmels, to undertake a complete restoration to better than new condition. The restoration with Hemmels followed the Neugeboren Process, which took 12 months and required every component of the 190SL to be restored or replaced to be better than new and the condition of this example is a testament to that process and their craftsmanship.

Having completed minimal mileage since it’s restoration, this example is now beautifully run in and ready to enjoy.
